Excel Schedule Bracelets
I have to begin by giving my thanks to the dozens of “millionaire mindset morning routine” videos that I found one night when falling down the youtube rabbit hole. I couldn’t have done this without you. The sheer willpower to get up at 6 am and immediately take a cold shower and meticulously write out your goals for the day is a power only shared amongst gods. Watching these videos made me realize that the true reason I wasn’t a millionaire, was because there was no way in hell I was waking up before the sun to run on a treadmill in my elaborate home gym. However absurd these videos were, I found them amusing.
Not only that, I decided to compare these “millionaire” and “entrepreneurial” schedules to my very own daily life. Now I’ll be honest, my original intention was to compare the two to see what I was lacking in terms of becoming a millionaire, I’ll admit it. But that’s beside the point. After comparing the two schedules, I remembered the millions of other humans that exist outside of the extremely wealthy. I wanted to compare the schedules of many and see the different lives we all live, not just the wealthy. Imagine that, how quickly a “millionaire mindset” leads you to forget the underdogs.
So I added the schedules of prison inmates, recruits in the military, med students, and art students to my spreadsheet and color-coded it. Each color represents an activity, such as blue meaning sleep, green meaning exercise, you get the idea. The fully colored sheet reminded me of weavings. More specifically, the friendship bracelets I wear on my left wrist 24/7. So I decided to create 8 different bracelets using the friendship-bracelet-knot-tieing method. I matched the thread to the colored excel activity, each thread representing a chunk of time and each bracelet representing a day.
I like the idea of wearing your schedule, and taking ownership of the daily life you live. The threads expand well past the single weaved day because not every day will be so clean and pristine. The threads twist, tangle, wind, and unwind again just like time itself. Although isolated to the choreographed days we individually live, we still intermingle and influence each other’s lives. Not every day is guaranteed, nor will it follow the daily routine you have come to make a habit.
